Pros

  • Simple program that allows you to cut segments from MP3 and join them together
  • No limit on how much you can cut or join
  • The interface is easy enough to use as there are only a few tools

Cons

  • No tutorials
  • This is a very basic program with limited tools

Free MP3 Cutter Joiner is a program that is able to cut MP3 files into smaller segments or join multiple segments together for a longer file. This means you can take a song and take out a small segment that you like or you can join multiple files together and make a file as long as you like. This program also allows for some small audio adjustments.

Using the Features

There are two main tools here that allow you to either cut or join MP3 files. Start by adding the MP3 files. This is done by clicking the "Add" button and then choosing any files that you would like to work with. There is no limit to how many files you can use here, but there must be at least one present for this to work.

You will see two tabs at the top called "MP3 Cutter" and "MP3 Joiner." Cutter is for cutting out certain sections of the MP3 file. You can cut a small segment or most of the file, depending on your needs. There is no limit to how big or small the segment must be, so cut whatever you need from the file. You can also cut out multiple segments from the same MP3 file. This is useful if you don't need something from the middle but like parts from the beginning and end.

The Joiner allows you to join files together. You can either work with whole files or segments. Start by selecting MP3 Joiner and then choosing the files from the provided menu. You can then choose what order the MP3 segments go in. You should have no problem arranging the file and then converting it into one long MP3 file that you can listen to. You can join as many files as you like, but this program might slow down if you add dozens of different files because it isn't meant for heavy processing.

Simple Adjustments

Free MP3 Cutter Joiner is not an audio editor, but it does include some adjustment tools that can change the MP3 file slightly. You can adjust the volume and some other aspects of the sound. It isn't much, but this can be used to balance the joined MP3 file so that no segment is louder than any other.

Easy Installation

Installing this program is easy and about the same as any other program. Start by downloading Free MP3 Cutter Joiner and then running the installation. The only thing different about this installation is that you'll be clicking through a lot of menus. It seems impractical and most of the menus don't do anything. While there will be a lot of clicking compared to other programs, the installation is easy and should only take a few minutes.

Outdated Interface

Free MP3 Cutter Joiner has a very outdated interface that looks extremely basic. It functions well enough, but it's rough around the edges and definitely needs a new design. The buttons for adding and removing MP3 files are large and chunky. They also have very old graphics on them that look out of place with similar programs. The tools for cutting and joining and accessed through a gray tab that also looks very outdated.

While the interface design won't win any awards, it does function well enough and you should have no problem discerning what each tool is used for.

No Tutorials

Many programs include tutorials or a help section that will assist you in learning about how the tools work and how to use the program in general. This can be very useful for some users and are ideal for those who aren't computer savvy. The problem here is that Free MP3 Cutter Joiner has no tutorials or documentation.

If you are good with computers, then you likely won't need a tutorial. Most of the tools are quite basic and easy enough to use. If you aren't that good with computers, then this lack of any assistance could be an issue.

Free MP3 Cutter Joiner is a piece of software that only barely does what the name implies, and it does so through an interface that is outdated and seems almost purposefully confusing.

When you first open the app, it feels like something is off right away. Instead of feeling like a single cohesive app with multiple functions, it seems like two distinct apps have linked to form a new beast entirely independent of sophisticated design or advanced functionality.

Once the software is installed and you open the app, you'll see the first side of the software that could act as its own app. This Cutter side is built with an unorganized interface that appears to have been stitched together with icons taken directly from competing apps. These icons are barely recognizable since they have clearly been repeatedly enlarged and compressed, which results in blocky, distorted imagery. Not only are these icons difficult to translate, but they can't be changed or updated by the user.

These icons hide a number of different functions, but it's basically impossible to figure out which function corresponds to which icon without consulting the developer's website for the online help menu. This menu doesn't have the best English translation, but it offers some basic guidelines for using the most basic tools in the software.

In the center of the app page is a waveform image, but this image is not linked to the audio content you're working with. This seems like a slap in the face since it wouldn't have been difficult at all to add a visual waveform as a decorative and functional element. You can't drag-and-drop audio files into the software to open them, but instead you must use the browse function to select each file. Even when you select a new file, the waveform image doesn't react in any way.

After you have finished using the Cutter to prepare your audio, you can use the second half of the app, which is called the Joiner. The Joiner is a bit easier to use, but this is due to the fact that it has fewer functions than the Cutter.

Using the search function, you can select files you want to join. Inside the Joiner, you can reorder them so they will flow properly. Once they are ready to be joined, you can press a single button to create a single MP3 file from all the audio clips in the Joiner list. You can't edit the files in any way with the software, and there are no transitions between clips in the final file, but the process is fairly easy to operate.

While Free MP3 Cutter Joiner can be difficult to use, it does have a specific function that is sometimes buried in other audio apps. The software is also free, so it's worth a try if you need such splicing ability for your audio workflow.
